These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of StorySteps ("the Service"), operated by Brent Proctor ("we", "us", or "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What StorySteps is

StorySteps is a storytelling tool designed to help parents, carers, and professionals better understand children's emotional responses. It generates interactive stories based on concerns you describe and provides questions and suggestions for follow-up conversation.

StorySteps is not a medical device, therapeutic tool, or diagnostic service. It is not a substitute for professional advice from a qualified psychologist, therapist, doctor, or other healthcare professional. If you have serious concerns about a child's wellbeing, please seek professional support.

2. Who can use StorySteps

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use StorySteps. The Service is intended for use by parents, carers, and professionals working with children. It is not intended for direct use by children.

3. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us immediately at storystepscontact@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

4. Subscriptions and payments

StorySteps offers a free tier and paid subscription plans. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually as selected. Payments are processed securely by Stripe.

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial periods unless required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice. We will notify you by email before any price change affects your subscription.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use StorySteps to:

• Provide false or misleading information when generating stories.
• Attempt to misuse the AI system to generate harmful, abusive, or inappropriate content.
• Share account credentials with others.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, copy, or replicate the Service.
• Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law.

6. AI-generated content

Stories generated by StorySteps are produced by artificial intelligence based on the information you provide. While we have designed the system carefully, AI-generated content may occasionally be imperfect, incomplete, or not suited to every child or situation.

The questions, suggestions, and interpretations provided after each story are intended as starting points for your own thinking and conversation — not as professional assessments or recommendations.

7. Intellectual property

The StorySteps platform, design, and underlying technology are owned by Brent Proctor. The stories generated for you during your session are yours to use for personal or professional purposes. You may not reproduce or resell the platform itself.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, StorySteps is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability to you in any circumstance is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms. You may close your account at any time by contacting us at storystepscontact@gmail.com.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. For users in the United Kingdom or European Union, your statutory consumer rights are not affected by these terms.
